Myanmar Highlights Tour and Irrawaddy River Cruise
This 12 day adventure explores the highlights of Myanmar including Yangon, Inle lake, Mandalay and Bagan, and includes a two night river cruise along the Irrawaddy River.

Your 12 day Myanmar journey begins in Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon and the country's largest city and most important commercial centre. Here you will tour the famous pagodas of the city, including the most revered Buddhist temple, the Shwedagon Pagoda, standing 90 metres tall and gilded with gold leaf. You will also gain an overview of Buddhism and witness locals as they gather to pray and then join them for tea, Burmese style.

Next you will travel to Heho, absorbing the stunning scenery en route to Inle Lake for a cruise along Myanmar’s second largest lake. Next, you will travel to Mandalay, stopping at the former capital, Amarapura to walk along the 200-year-old teak U Bein Bridge and partake in the alms offering at the monastery.

Next you will board your luxurious river cruise boat for a two night journey along the Irrawaddy River. During your cruise you will visit Mingun, home to the magnificent uncompleted stupa and the world’s largest uncracked ringing bell, and to Sagaing, regarded as the religious centre of Myanmar and home to 3,000 monks, meditation centres and covered with 600 painted pagodas and monasteries.

Your cruise disembarks in Bagan where you will spend two nights, including a visit to Thagyar Pone Temple, which boasts spectacular views over the surrounding plains; and the esteemed Ananda Temple. Finally, you will return to Yangon where you will enjoy a farewell dinner at La Planteur, one of Yangon’s finest restaurants.

Day 1: Yangon (HD)
Mingalaba and welcome to Myanmar! On arrival you will be met and transferred* to your hotel. (Please arrive at the hotel no later than 1.00pm.) This afternoon meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers and take an Included orientation tour of this fascinating city with its colonial buildings and religious monuments. This evening you will enjoy an Included welcome dinner in the magnificent Grill Restaurant in The Strand.
Two Night Special Stay: Yangon
Day 2: Yangon (FB,L,D)
This morning enjoy your Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE activity choose from: (1) ride a local train to observe everyday Burmese life; or (2) explore the small town of Dahla across the river by trishaw; or (3) uncover the mix of cultures and religions on a special walking tour. Day 3: Yangon - Inle Lake (FB,L,D)
Early this morning transfer to Yangon airport for your Included flight to Heho. On arrival enjoy the stunning scenery before reaching Inle Lake where you board a private motor boat for your Included cruise. Discover the beauty of Myanmar’s second largest lake, as you cruise past villages built on stilts and observe the native lake dwellers (Inthas) and their unique one-legged rowing technique.

Day 4: Inle Lake (FB,L,D)
 After breakfast, Included is your visit to the lake’s morning market where you will encounter the lake inhabitants and surrounding hill tribe people who come to trade their wares. After an Included lunch climb to the top of a hill dotted with picturesque ancient stupas and enjoy the magnificent views over the lake below.
Day 5: Inle Lake - Mandalay (FB,L,D)
This morning transfer to Nyaung Shwe, a charming town for your Included trishaw tour. After your Included lunch at a restaurant specialising in local Shan cooking, transfer to the airport for your Included flight to Mandalay.

Day 6: Mandalay (FB,L,D)
This morning stop at the former capital, Amarapura, and stop for an Included walk along the 200 year-old teak U Bein Bridge. Included SCENIC ENRICH partake in the alms offering at the monastery. As the monks arrive you will serve each of them rice in their alms bowl. Then continue to Ava another former capital, for an Included horse and carriage ride to the old wooden Monastery and remains of the Royal Palace.
Day 7: Mandalay - Irrawaddy River Cruise (FB,L,D)
Included this morning is a visit to Mandalay Hill, rising 240 metres above the city, for beautiful views of the city, surrounding countryside and the Irrawaddy River. Included visit to Shwe Nandaw Kyuang, or Golden Palace Monastery, noted for its intricate wood carvings. Encounter ‘the world’s largest book’, a collection of more than 700 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings at Kuthodaw Pagoda. Board your luxurious Included river cruise, your floating hotel for the next two nights. Lunch will be served on board as you set sail for Mingun, home to the magnificent uncompleted stupa and the world’s largest uncracked ringing bell, which you will discover on your Included visit. Enjoy relaxing in the saloon lounge before dinner is served.

Day 8: Irrawaddy River Cruise (FB,L,D)
This morning, take time to relax on the deck and enjoy the natural beauty of the river and the scenes of riverside life. After breakfast take an Included visit to Sagaing, regarded as the religious centre of Myanmar and home to 3,000 monks, meditation centres and covered with 600 painted pagodas and monasteries. Continue cruising this afternoon enjoying the local scenery.
Day 9: Bagan (FB,L,D)

Arriving into Bagan this morning, disembark your cruise boat. The perfect introduction to the grandeur and scope of Bagan’s architecture is your Included visit to Thagyar Pone Temple with spectacular views over the surrounding plains. Continue to Ananda Temple, one of the most revered temples in Bagan. After enjoying an Included lunch visit Gubyaukgyi Temple, noted for its beautiful mural paintings on its inner walls and well-preserved plaster carvings on its exterior.

Day 10: Bagan (FB,D)

This morning discover an insight into the local culture with an Included visit to a local produce market. Visit a workshop making poneya, a popular treat made from beans. SCENIC ENRICH Included horse cart ride to visit some of the temples of this fascinating city and watch the sun set over the temples and plains.

Day 11: Bagan - Yangon (FB,HD)
On arrival from your early morning Included flight to Yangon, relax and soak in the atmosphere of a bygone era at The Strand and enjoy your Included morning tea. During your freetime explore Scott Market, discover Burmese artifacts at the National Museum or visit a School for the Blind for a heart-warming experience. This evening your delicious Included farewell dinner is at Le Planteur, one of Yangon’s finest dining experiences and is the perfect end to a wonderful journey.
