Budapest to Amsterdam
Europe’s famed Christmas street markets run across the four weeks of Advent, with the most the most spectacular held in Cologne, boasting puppet theatres, toy stalls, fairytales and Santa’s grotto. The most famous is in Nuremberg, dating back to 1628 and world-renowned for toy making and metal work; whilst Vienna’s Christkindlemarkt is held on the square in front of the beautiful City Hall. Coupled with Christmas festivities, this tour also uncovers the treasures of the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, whose banks are graced by the incredible imperial cities of Budapest, Vienna and Amsterdam; historic Cologne, Würzburg on the ‘Romantic Road’; baroque Bamberg; Nuremberg, famous for its beer and bratwurst; Regensburg, the largest preserved medieval city centre in Germany; Passau, the ‘City of Three Rivers’; the beautiful Austrian cities of Melk and Linz; and the wine town of Dürnstein in the stunning Wachau Valley.
On the River Seine at the heart of the Île-de-France is the enchanting French capital, Paris. Romanticised as the ‘city of love’ and the most visited city in the world, Paris guarantees the crème de la crème in gastronomy, shopping, the arts, museums and monuments.
