Your tour begins in Amman, the capital of the Kingdom of Jordan and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. You will spend two days exploring the city, including a fascinating tour to discover the traces of Amman’s many lives, from the Citadel overlooking the city to the columns of a Roman temple and a Byzantine church. From Amman, travel to the ancient city of Jerash, widely acknowledged as one of the best-preserved provincial cities of the Roman Empire. In Jerash you will visit the Triple Arch Gate, the Hippodrome, the Colonnaded Street, the Forum and the Temple of Zeus and the paved the way leading to the Temple of Artemis. Your next incredible destination is Petra, known as the Rose Red City, where you will enjoy a full day walking tour of this World Heritage-listed city. Finally, you will travel to the Dead Sea, where you will spend two days relaxing on its shores and floating in its therapeutic waters.

Welcome to Amman the capital of the Kingdom of Jordan (Please book your flight to arrive no later than 12 noon). Upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport you will be met by your Scenic Tours representative who will assist you with clearing customs and immigration and transfer you to your 5 star hotel located close to the tourist district in Amman. Archaeological remains date Amman as far back as 10000 BC. Situated at the crossroads of Asia and Africa, the city has been inhabited by many civilisations including the Persians, the Nabateans and the Romans and was referred to as the Roman city of Philadelphia. This morning travel to the ancient city of Jerash which is acknowledged as one of the best preserved provincial cities of the Roman Empire. Archaeological finds date the history of the city as far back as 3,200 BC. Conquered by the Romans in 63BC Jerash achieved great prosperity under their rule and extended over 800,000 square meters within its walls. Your Included tour will see the Triple Arch Gate, the Colonnaded Street, the Forum, the Temple of Zeus and the paved way leading to the Temple of Artemis. Return to Amman and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: Amman - Petra

Leave Amman this morning and travel to ‘Bethany Beyond The Jordan’ for your Included tour. Amazing archaeological discoveries have identified this as the area where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist. Continue to one of the most revered sites in Jordan – Mount Nebo. View the memorial to Moses at the presumed site of the prophet’s death and burial place. Enjoy your Included lunch at Madaba then see the famous mosaic map of the Holy Land, comprised of two million pieces of coloured stone, before continuing to the Rose Red City of Petra and your hotel which is located directly across from the entrance to the site.

A highlight of your trip is today’s Included full day walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. This magnificent ancient city, carved into the sandstone mountains, is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious race who settled in south Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. By the 16th century Petra had become completely lost to the West, and remained so until 1812 when the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt persuaded his guide to take him to the site of the rumoured lost city. The impressive eastern entrance of the city leads down through a brilliantly coloured narrow gorge carved by an ancient waterway. Marvel at Petra’s most famous monument: the Treasury, which appears dramatically at the end of the siq. This towering facade, called Al Khazneh is only the first of Petra’s secrets you will discover today. Tonight enjoy your Included dinner in the Al Saraya Restaurant.
Day 5: Petra - Dead Sea

Today travel in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia as you drive to the Valley of the Moon - Wadi Rum, where the legend of Lawrence was born and the film was shot. Included is your adventure through some of the most dramatic desert landscapes by Jeep, operated by the local Bedouin tribes. Explore Lawrence Road; be awed by the vistas of ancient valleys and towering weathered sandstone mountains rising out of the pink and white sands. Continue north to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea.
