Treasures of the West Coast Tour
This remarkable 21 day tour of Western Australia and the Northern Territory from Darwin to Perth includes two nights in Emma Gorge in the El Questro Wilderness Park.

Your 21 day Treasures of the West Coast adventure begins in the Northern Territory capital of Darwin, where you will enter the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and visit Nourlangie Rock, covered with Aboriginal rock art dating back over 50,000 years. You will then cruise the Yellow Water Billabong and learn about local abundant wildlife and traditional mythology before heading to Nitmiluk National Park for a Nabilil Dreaming Sunset Cultural Cruise through spectacular Katherine Gorge where you will marvel at the towering red ochre sandstone walls.

Your journey continues into Western Australia to the largest lake in the southern hemisphere, Lake Argyle. You will cruise on the Ord River beneath the immense gorge walls and visit Mt Romance Sandalwood Factory to see the soil to oil process. It is then onto the acclaimed El Questro Wilderness Park to cruise through the magnificent Chamberlain Gorge or immerse yourself in the outback with a bush culture and history tour. After visiting the world’s largest single producer of diamonds at the Argyle Diamond Mine you will continue to Halls Creek, the oasis of the Kimberley that sits on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert.

From here you will observe the extraordinary China Wall and meet the small community of Aboriginal students at the Yiyili Aboriginal Community School. Next, take a cruise through the exquisite Geikie Gorge to spot sawfish, stingrays and freshwater crocodiles, before travelling to Broome to get your first taste of the pristine coastline that awaits you.

You will then continue south to the Pilbara region to explore the BHP Iron Ore port facility, before venturing into Karijini National Park for the awe-inspiring Fortescue Falls, Joffre Gorges and the sheer waterfalls, which are in striking contrast to the rich red Pilbara terrain. Next stop is Karratha where you will learn about the North-West Shelf Natural Gas Project, the largest resource development in Australia before carrying onto Exmouth. In Exmouth, cruise the clear waters of magnificent Ningaloo Reef on board your glass bottom boat before visiting the World Heritage-listed Shark Bay and Monkey Mia, which is best known as home to the world famous wild bottle-nosed dolphins, as well as turtles, manta rays and dugongs.

In the Nambung National Park is The Pinnacles, the ancient limestone spiers that rise eerily out of the sand. Your adventure concludes in Perth where you will enjoy two days in the vibrant West Australian capital.

Welcome to the gateway of the Kimberley! On arrival at Darwin airport you will be met and transferred* to your hotel. Day 2: Darwin - Kakadu National Park (FB,D)
Enter the amazing World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park teaming with life and natural beauty. Visit Nourlangie Rock for your Included SCENIC ENRICH experience where you will receive your first in depth insight into the oldest culture in the world. Marvel at ancient Aboriginal rock art that is at least 50,000 years old, whilst your guide enlightens you on art, history and culture of the local Aboriginal people. Gain a deeper understanding of the park at the Bowali Visitors Centre where you stop for lunch, then board your vessel for an Included cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong. Day 4: Katherine - Kununurra (FB,D)
Travel into Western Australia as the expanse of the Kimberley fully reveals itself with a visit to the magnificent Lake Argyle, the largest lake in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy one of the highlights of the tour as you take in the spectacular scenery on your Included SCENIC ENRICH cruise. Journey down the Ord River to Kununurra where you will pass beneath immense gorge walls, view peaceful river scenery and have the opportunity to spot some of the region’s incredible wildlife including crocodiles and an abundance of birdlife.

Day 5: Kununurra - El Questro (FB,D)

This morning, Included in your tour is a visit to Mt Romance Sandalwood Factory where you will learn more about the region’s famous fragrant timbers. Then enjoy an Included tour of the enormous Ord River Irrigation Scheme that has transformed the semi-desert cattle country to a luscious, year round agricultural area and farmland. You then follow the spectacular Cockburn Range before reaching Wyndham. Stand in awe at the vast expanse of land that sits before us at the 5 Rivers Lookout before continuing to the acclaimed El Questro Wilderness Park, a million acre park set in the stunning outback Kimberley landscape.

Day 6: El Questro Wilderness Park (FB,D)
Today there is the opportunity to explore the rugged beauty around El Questro with your Included SCENIC FREE CHOICE choose from: (1) a cruise through Chamberlain Gorge; or (2) bush culture and history tour; or (3) wet season history tour; or (4) a picnic hamper. This afternoon is free to relax in the tranquil resort setting, enjoy a walk in the surrounding area or go for a refreshing swim in the waterhole.
Day 7: El Questro Wilderness Park - Halls Creek (FB,L,D)
Admire the striking colours of the massive Carr Boyd Ranges as you travel to the world’s largest single producer of diamonds, the Argyle Diamond Mine, for an Included private guided tour of the open cut mine and lunch. See the exquisite diamonds on display including the rare pink diamond. Continue to Halls Creek, the oasis of the Kimberley and a genuine outback town which sits on the northern edge of the Great Sandy Desert.

Day 8: Halls Creek - Fitzroy Crossing (FB,D)

In the large coastal township of Port Hedland, enjoy an Included guided tour of the BHP Iron Ore port facility and learn about the history of the port and view the massive loading machinery.

Journey through the heart of the rugged Pilbara to Karijini National Park, one of Australia’s most spectacular natural assets. Visit Fortescue Falls and Dale and Joffre Gorges for awe-inspiring views.

Day 13: Karijini National Park - Karratha (FB,D)
Put on your hard hat this morning for an Included tour of the enormous Mt Tom Price iron ore mine. View the spectacular Hamersley Range with its sheer walls of rock layered in colours from red to green and blue to pink in the changing sunlight. Spend some time in the lush oasis of Millstream Chichester National Park (subject to road conditions) with its deep gorges and palm-fringed rock pools that provides a stark contrast to the surrounding landscape of rocky escarpments and rolling spinifex-covered hills. Continue to Karratha, the youngest and fastest growing town in the Pilbara.

Moving slowly from the Pilbara to the Coral Coast you will follow the pristine coastline southwards. This morning Included is your visit to the North-West Shelf Natural Gas Project Visitors’ Centre to learn about the biggest and one of the most important resource developments ever undertaken in Australia. Your journey continues south through the sparse but resource rich Gascoyne region.

Visit Vlaming Head this morning for panoramic views across Western Australia’s stunning coastline and the world famous Ningaloo Reef that supports some of the most diverse and unique marine life in the world before continuing to Coral Bay. Enjoy an Included cruise on the clear waters of magnificent Ningaloo Reef on board your glass bottom boat as you take in the views of the beautiful colourful coral reef and local marine life. If luck is your side you may even see a majestic whale shark!

Today your journey takes you to World Heritage listed Shark Bay, stopping at Hamelin Pool to view a colony of the world’s oldest living organisms that give you an insight into the development of life on earth, the ancient stromatolites. Continue to the famous Monkey Mia. This jewel of the unique Shark Bay World Heritage area is best known as home to the world famous Monkey Mia wild bottlenosed dolphins (subject to appearance) that regularly come close to shore to be hand fed. An abundance of exotic marine life makes this area their home such as turtles, manta rays and dugongs.

Day 17: Shark Bay - Monkey Mia (FB)
Monkey Mia is famous for the almost daily ritual of dolphins swimming to shore to interact with humans and this morning you may have the extraordinary opportunity to feed the dolphins under the supervision of a national park ranger (subject to appearance). This is a unique experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Day 18: Shark Bay - Geraldton FB,D
Travel to Shell Beach this morning, which is formed by billions of tiny white sea shells before continuing to the magnificent Kalbarri National Park. Stop at Hawks Head for spectacular views of the Murchison River gorges which have been carved over millions of years to form dramatic sandstone cliff faces. Visit the seaside town of Kalbarri before making your way to Geraldton, stopping at the HMAS Sydney Memorial. This beautifully designed memorial features a silver dome of 645 seagulls to represent each sailor lost in the Sydney disaster.

Today you enter Nambung National Park, home to one of Australia’s most unique and fascinating landscapes for an Included tour of the Pinnacles. These incredible limestone spires were formed over thousands of years and rise eerily out of the sand, some several metres tall. Take in the amazing sight as you wander through these strange formations. Continue on to Perth where you will be refreshed by its cosmopolitan nature after being in the outback. Perth is a relatively isolated city situated on the meandering Swan River which gives it a relaxed atmosphere. Boasting some of Australia’s best beaches and beautiful parks you will enjoy what’s on offer here.
